Very good condition. Reprint edition of the encyclopedia originally published in 1937-1939, enriched with an afterword by J. Tazbir and an extensive errata. A famous encyclopedia depicting the daily life, material and spiritual culture of the former Republic of Poland. The result of a collaboration between the great erudite and expert on the subject, Aleksander Brückner (1856-1939), a Slavist and discoverer of the "Sermons of the Holy Cross," and Karol Estreicher junior (1906-1984) an art historian, the last of the great Estreicher clan, who provided nearly 4,000 illustrations for this monumental undertaking. Estreicher tried to include original photography of the historical monument wherever possible. Many of the illustrations appeared here for the first time.
