The wanderers of the title are two Prague journeymen, Jakub and Marcin, taking part in an unusual race from Prague to Vienna and back.

When I was leaving home,
from this village in the valley,
my gaze wandered with regret
over the Czech countryside.

On a hill stood
Mother's dear mother,
eyes weeping
She wiped, ungodly.

"May I be well,
my dear child,
Work, live honestly
In the wide world.

And return from afar
To your native land,
never forget
mother's native land."

The book decorated with illustrations by Bogdan Zieleniec (1917-1973), a respected and recognized graphic artist and illustrator.
