1. Wrobel: (Estr. T. 33).
"Printed in antiqua, only chapter titles in Gothic. Dedication: Principi Johanni ex Ducibus Lithuaniae Dei gr. episcopo Posnaniensi.... Valentinus Posnanianus. - Here he welcomes the bishop arriving ex Vylnensis ecclesiae regimine and many hopes are attached to it." In the preface, the author points out that all states sin, he especially stigmatizes the sins of the clergy. This work is intended to help correct them. Datow. ex Posnania 19. Decembris 1536 The work consists of 3 treatises, which are an expression of the desire to revive relations in the Polish Church. The first is called "De poenitentia." It describes the need for penance and confession. Penance should consist of reparation and correction. It is based on the writings of St. Augustine, Basil, Chrysostom, et al. The second treatise is a commentary on the Ten Commandments: Tractatus de praeceptis Dei . He extensively draws out the consequences that flow from each of the commandments. A characteristic feature of the work is that he does not limit himself to moralistic deductions, but often cites specific examples of abuses and sins, pulling them under the prohibitions of the Ten Commandments, and so speaks of playing cards, public spectacles, taverns, tithing, and sins peculiar to the life of the clergy he addresses frequently and boldly. The third treatise is a commentary on the Oratio Dominica, and connected to it is the argument "De symbolo Apostolico." And here the content is moralizing. The work ends with an extensive index, occupying 8 pages. Wróbel Walenty, Passer (Passerimus) Valentinus, Walenty of Poznań, b. ca. 1475, d. 1537, biblical scholar, preacher, ascetical writer; professor of the Acad. of Krak., then preacher in Cracow and Poznań.
