WITKIEWICZ Stanislaw Ignacy - Tumor Mózgowicz. Drama in 3 acts with prologue. Kraków 1921. publishing company "Fala". 16d, pp. 90. broch.
Minor stains to the covers, small loss to the spine, good condition inside. Own stamp. A printed dedication to Zofia and Tadeusz Zeleński appears before the text. The play had its world premiere on June 31, 1921 at the City Theater in Krakow, and was thus the first work by Witkacy to be produced for the stage. The play was widely commented on in the press of the time, which prompted the author to come out with a fierce polemic. The main character of the drama is a brilliant mathematician, and the plot is full of absurd and irrational episodes. Elements of the grotesque, black humor, even surrealism characteristic of Witkacy's theater can be seen here. In a brief "Theoretical Introduction" Witkiewicz wrote: "in addition to erotic issues, the content of ["Tumor"] is: certain fantasies about the upheaval in mathematics and physics [...]. With fantasies about mathematics and psychiatry, we would not want to offend either of the two scientists, just as with views on so-called 'love,' social issues and supernatural phenomena, we would not want to offend erotomaniacs, socialites and spiritualists." He concludes with the sentence: "We point out that the 'views' expressed by the personalities in these plays, we do not ascribe any objective meaning." Pure form in practice.
