The brother of the painter Stanislaw, he began his artistic studies in 1891 at the Munich Academy, then studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, and from 1894 to 1895 at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow and at the Technical University there. He was a versatile artist. Devoted to the idea of embracing all of life through art, he embodied it in his diverse activities - he was a painter (author of portraits, landscapes, genre scenes), graphic designer, architect, designer of interiors, furniture, kilims, posters, engaged in art criticism and pedagogical work. He was a member and active activist of the Society of Polish Artists "Art and "Cracow Workshops, co-founder of the Society "Polish Applied Art and the cooperative of artists "Ład. In 1913 he organized and then led the chair of interior design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, and from 1919 he taught at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Stefan Batory University in Vilnius.
