Jan Rubczak (1884 - 1942) is a painter and printmaker active in Poland and France, described as a post-impressionist. He began studying printmaking in Cracow under Franciszek Cynk and Jozef Pankiewicz. He perfected his skills in Leipzig and Paris, where he opened his own graphic design school in 1917. After returning to Poland in 1924, he devoted himself to teaching, culminating in an assistantship in Jan Wojnarski's printmaking studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He was an active participant and founder of many art groups, such as the Society of Polish Artists "Sztuka" and "Jednoróg", exhibited with the "Formists", was also a member of the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Cracow and numerous art associations and societies in France. He participated in countless exhibitions both at home and abroad. He was a master of etching and aquatint, and his prints exuded a nostalgic and mysterious mood. He also did not shy away from lithography with its soft line and color effects.
