[ROZWADOWSKI Józef]. Handwritten letter from Bishop of Lodz Józef Rozwadowski, dated. 21 I 1971 in Lodz.
Double-sided manuscript on ark. 15x21.3 cm. Red imprint in upper left corner: bishop's coat of arms and inscription "Bishop of Lodz". Letter addressed to an unnamed Ph. Fox, in addition to thanking him for the correspondence sent, is dedicated to "certain articles" in the "Concilium" considered "dangerous." The bishop mentions the names of Karl Rahner and Rev. Prof. Ignatius Rozycki. He concludes with the sentence: "Spreading among wide circles, even priests, sows confusion. I think the matter will be the subject of a special conference." Corner creases, scuffs.
J. Rozwadowski (1909-1996) - doctor of theology, diocesan bishop of Lodz in 1968-1986. "During martial law, he actively supported the democratic opposition. At its beginning, in his residence, he gave shelter to the wanted "Solidarity" activist Janusz Kenic [...], intervened with the authorities in defense of the arrested, established a center for the assistance of the interned, imprisoned and their families" (Wikipedia).
