One-sided letter on ark. 15.4x20.8 cm. "Bishop of Przemyśl" imprint in upper left corner. Letter addressed to an unnamed doctor. The bishop thanks for the letter sent and the "very up-to-date material concerning our religious and social life [...]. It is a pity that this cannot be published in the press, then the impact would be much wider." Slight folding of the sheet, good condition.
I. Tokarczuk (1918-2012) - Doctor of Philosophy, diocesan bishop of Przemyśl from 1966 to 1993. "He became bishop as a result of the oversight of the communist authorities, who - having the opportunity to veto an unaccepted nominee - did not object within the prescribed period [...]. Despite the lack of permits from the communist authorities to build churches and the imposition of penalties on builders, 430 churches were erected in the Przemyśl diocese during his reign [...]. He supported the democratic opposition from the Committee for the Defense of Workers, the Movement for the Defense of Human and Civil Rights, the Committee for Peasant Self-Defense of the Lublin Land and the NSZZ 'Solidarity'. For his uncompromising stance against the People's Republic of Poland, especially for his speeches against the hypocrisy of the system and the atheization of society, he was invigilated and harassed by the authorities and the security service.
