In 1630, after an almost century-long hiatus in coinage, the city of Torun minted its first coins under King Sigismund III. These are commemorative thalers (so-called "brandtalars") made to honor the army that repulsed the Swedish army standing at the city gates. In turn, taking advantage of the fact that the mint was organized, the City Council decides to continue its operations, starting a municipal issue of ducats and thaler coins.
Here is the first of these.
A thaler minted during the administration of Hans Lippe (with his initials H-L at the base of the coat of arms shield). From the first half of the year, before Jacob Jacobson took over the mint.
Nice, but with damage.
Silver, diameter 42 mm, weight 28.5 g.
