Unwarranted rubbing of covers, yellowing and browning on pages in places. Wyspianski's drama is set on the stage of a Cracow theater, thus depicting a theater within a theater. The main character's task is the liberation of the title, which is to take place on various levels: liberation of Poland from political slavery, liberation of the nation from inertia of spirit and will, and liberation of art.
