(Estr. T. 18, 29). The book on offer is Sokolovksi's most important work The work was a critical discussion of Constantinople Patriarch Jeremiah II Tranos' response to German Lutherans proposing to him the unification of the Greek Orthodox Church with the Lutherans. The work sparked a lengthy and extensive polemical literature. Sokolowski was considered a leading theological polemist, second to none to Stanislav Hosius. An extremely valuable work showing the theological discussions of the Reformation period with the important participation of Polish scholars. Jeremiah II Tranos (1536-1595), ecumenical patriarch of Constantinople. His nickname, Tranos, means a man with a penetrating mind. Sokolowski S. (1536 - 1593), excellent preacher during the reign of Stefan Batory and Sigismund III, royal confessor, canon of Cracow. Pope Gregory XIII's legate Bologneti wrote: "Three things worthy of admiration in Poland I saw: Stefan the wisest king, Zamoyski the most prudent chancellor, and Sokolowski the preacher, almost divine." Traces of non-sagging and soiling, early notations on title page. Binding: soft parchment, acquired from an old manuscript. Binding with rubbing and soiling. Very rare.
