Tales from the Riverbanks - a 14th century Chinese novel, one of the four classic Chinese novels. The novel, whose authorship is attributed to Shi Nai'an, was written in colloquial Chinese. Its plot is set during the Song Dynasty and tells the story of how a group of 108 outlaws from Liangshan (Chinese : 梁山; pinyin: Liángshān, translated: Liang mountain), or the Liangshan swamps, band together to form a small army. They are then pardoned and fight against foreign invaders and the rebels. The novel was originally titled Jianghu Hao Ke Zhuan(江湖豪客傳), which was sometimes expanded to Zhongyi Shuihu Zhuan(忠義水滸傳). She introduced many of the most beloved literary figures of Chinese literature like Wu Song, Lin Chong and Lu Zhishen to Chinese culture.
