Volume one contains books one through six, describing the period from the last years of the reign of Augustus to the death of Emperor Tiberius.

Before the text proper there is an extensive preface to King Stanislaus Augustus, then to the Reader, including a summary of Tacitus' life and a discussion of Polish translations of Roman history.

After the text, notes to all books and a register of names and things.
