Volume III consisting of five books describes the period from the reign of Galba until Vespasian's assumption of power. Thus, it covers a very interesting period called in historiography , "the year of four emperors".

Volume IV consisting of two books describes the Germanic people and the life of the Roman commander Julius Agricola.
