"This book is a book of a bygone time, a testimony to an era that was closed by 1939, but that is why it is worth reading. To better understand..." From the introduction
"Strzępy meldunków" are scenes reconstructed retrospectively on the basis of the notes that Składkowski kept throughout the period of his service to the Fatherland. The scenes are special - because they depict his cooperation with Marshal Pilsudski during the time of independence. "Reports" in this case should be understood not so much as reports made to the Commander by the author, but as accounts of every situation when - whether on call or on his own initiative - he reported to a meeting with his beloved commander. The adjective "beloved" is not an exaggeration; if one reaches for sources showing Pilsudski from a side other than the official one, it is easy to realize that he was a man who was either adored with all the "benefits of livestock," i.e. his explosive temper, inarticulate vocabulary and stubbornness with which he insisted on his opinion, or sincerely loathed - and his former subordinates and later associates generally adored him.
