The catalog of the exhibition "Russian Icon Painting of the Fourteenth to Nineteenth Centuries from the Collection of the Russian State Museum covers a huge period in terms of time in the history of Russian icon painting. The main part of the works shown in the exhibition was created in the 14th-17th centuries, i.e. in the Old Russian era, during the formation of the native school of painting. Also included in the exhibition are icons from the 18th and 19th centuries, from a time when the icon with its long-developed system of imagery existed like a separate phenomenon, existing alongside the intensely developing secular art.
