in two Series containing 80 views, depicting historical places from the times of the Turkish, Tatar, Teutonic, and Cossack wars, and pre-historic ones, as: Peripiatycha's grave, Mamaya Castle in Buki, etc., also old ruins of defensive castles and beautiful residences, testifying to the past and civilization of this country. Oblong folio, (30 x 39.5 cm), pp [1 title and index], 80 color lithographs, original binding, psk. introligat. With gilt and embossing on the front and spine.
Binding, spine and especially corners of binding heavily rubbed and faded. Traces of non-staining. Gilt edges of pages. Binding signed: "A. Morawski, bookbinder in Warsaw". According to the index, this is the first and second series. Monumental publication constituting the largest collection of views of the lands of the Republic of Poland. The engravings were made according to drawings by Napoleon Orda (1807-1883), participant in the November Uprising, emigration activist, draughtsman, painter, watercolorist. He traveled with a sketchbook through all the lands of the former Republic of Poland, and the purpose of these wanderings was to pass on to future generations documents of artistic and political culture and treasures of native architecture. The yield of these travels was 800 drawings made from nature, 260 of which were transferred to lithographic stone by Alojzy Misierowicz, and published in eight series by the Maximilian Fajans Lithographic Company. "The collected views are marked by exceptional lithographic value, often constituting the only source documenting the appearance of many hundreds of residences and residences, especially those of the borderlands. ("Dictionary of Polish Artists"). The work was published in series over a period of 10 years, the first series had 50 views, the others 30 each.
