The volume devoted to Lithuania contains data on the country (descriptions of dozens of localities), on the population, its religions, social relations, clothing, food, buildings, occupations, customs, rites and beliefs, moreover legends, legends, brief information on the language with a glossary and 279 songs with 205 melodies. The volume consisted of materials to a small extent derived from Kolberg's own research, who wrote down Lithuanian folklore in Augustowsk in 1860.The main sources were manuscripts, publications and information of other collectors and researchers of Lithuanian folk culture, among them M. Akielewicz, S. Dowkont, H. Gieguzhinsky, J. Jaroszewicz (from whose manuscript 119 melodies edited by Kolberg were included in the volume), M. Kaminski, A. Osipowicz and others. Translations of Lithuanian songs into Polish were made by K. Niezabitowski, Fr. Zatorski, M. Akielewicz, among others. The entirety of the materials collected by Kolberg is complemented by an extensive bibliography he compiled, with numerous footnotes, and a list of localities in the districts of Calvary, Marijampole and Sejny.
