Stanislaw Grzesiuk with his usual humor and swagger portrays the suburbs of the capital with their customs, traditions and peculiar code of honor, while drawing on the vocabulary and specific dialect of the Warsaw street.

The book's publication was held up for several months by the censors. Finally, in July 1959, the book hit the bookstores and, like "Five Years of the Hangman," immediately disappeared from the shelves. Readers and reviewers appealed to the author and publisher with requests for reprints. And the book became a must-read for decades for boys from Warsaw backyards.
