MICKIEWICZ Franciszek - Memoirs ... From the autograph published and explained by Jozef Kallenbach. Foreword by Wladyslaw Mickiewicz. Lvov 1923; Ossolineum. 8, p. 86, [1]. pamphlet.
Maliszewski 1320. folds and tears to edges of front cover, internally very good condition. Ex. largely uncut. Diary of F. Mickiewicz (1796-1862) - Adam's oldest brother, an important source for the poet's biography. "Perhaps it was the reading of 'Pan Tadeusz' and the letter encouragement of A. E. Odyniec in 1835 that made him [Franciszek] take to writing down his childhood memories [...]. However, the memoir was never completed: it broke off abruptly, brought to the moments immediately preceding the death of his father, Nikolai Mickiewicz. After all, it is the only document from the brothers about the poet's childhood, which, despite the embellished picture of the family, has source value, both in the sphere of facts and the language spoken in Lithuania." (Enc. Mick. 302).
