First edition of the biography of Jozef Pankiewicz, written by Jozef Czapski. The text is decorated with numerous illustrations.
Jozef Pankiewicz was one of the coryphaeuses of 20th century Polish art. In the 1920s he initiated the current of Polish colorism, growing out of the experience of the French post-impressionists. As an educator, he influenced the formation of the artistic attitudes of a whole generation of Polish painters and printmakers, above all the artists gathered in the Paris Committee (Capists), artists of such stature as Jan Cybis, Artur Nacht-Samborski, Józef Czapski, Zygmunt Waliszewski and Tadeusz Potworowski.
Józef Czapski - painter, draughtsman, writer, essayist, critic, co-founder of the Parisian "Culture". Born April 3, 1896 in Prague, died January 12, 1993 in Maisons-Laffitte, France.
