Berlin edition of the comedies of Publius Terentius Afferius (born c. 195 BC, died no earlier than 159 BC), Roman comedy writer, one of two (besides Plautus) whose comedies have survived to our time. Thetext of the edition contains a total of six comedies.Among them are two comedies: Self-punishing(Heauton timorumenos) written as the third and staged in 163 BC, andThe Brothers(Adelphoe) written as the sixth and staged in 160 BC. The former was a great success from it comes the famous slogan of the Renaissance humanists: "Homo sum, humani nil a me alienum puto" (this is line 77 of this comedy). It is one of the most important literary texts of ancient culture from the Roman Empire. Text in Latin.
