UNIQUE piece, because it comes from the library of the famous Eagle Pharmacy of Tadeusz Pankiewicz, located in Podgórze. On the front page there is an autograph (in pen) of the pharmacy's owner, Tadeusz Pankiewicz.
The Eagle Pharmacy - was located at 18 Bohaterów Getta Square (former Zgody Square) in Cracow. It was founded by Jozef Pankiewicz, while from 1933 it was run by his son, Tadeusz Pankiewicz. Before the war, it was one of four pharmacies in Podgórze, used by both Jewish and Polish residents of the district.
Tadeusz Pankiewicz (1908-1993) - during World War II managed the "Pod Orłem" pharmacy, located in the Krakow ghetto at 18 Zgody Square (now 18 Bohaterów Getta Square). He was the only Pole who worked and lived among the residents of the "Jewish quarter" throughout its existence. The pharmacy became a meeting place for Jewish intellectuals, scientists and artists residing in the ghetto. Pankiewicz and his assistants were liaisons between Jews inside and outside the ghetto, passing on information and smuggled food. He witnessed the brutal deportations of Jews to the Belzec death camp. At the request of his friends from the ghetto, after the war he published his memoirs Apteka w getcie krakowskim, in which he recalled the fate mainly of those who did not manage to survive, for whom no one else could claim them, as entire Jewish families were extinguished. For his work in aiding and saving Jews, he was awarded the "Righteous Among the Nations" medal on February 10, 1983. [bio after: https://muzeumkrakowa.pl/oddzialy/tadeusz-pankiewicz]
