August II the Strong (1670-1733), king of Poland. Letter dated March 15, 1728, written in Dresden. In this letter, the king informs his cousin of the death of his grandson, Prince Joseph Augustus (1721-1728), who died of smallpox after 11 days of illness (March 14, 1728, in the evening, to be exact). In the letter, the King expresses his great sorrow over the death of Prince Joseph.

Bifolium, measuring 31 x 30 cm (the right margin has probably been cut off). Document in German, written on both sides. King's handwritten signature: "Augustus Rex". On the left side of the document, the Elector's seal through the paper of Augustus II (dim. 7.1 cm, imprinted on paper form 10.1 x 10.4 cm).

At the beginning of the letter a solemn listing of royal titles: "Wir, Friedrich August, von Gottes Gnaden, König in Pohlen, Groß-Hertzog in Litthauen, Reußen, Preußen, Mazovien, Samogitien, Kyovien, Vollhinien, Podolien, Podlachien, Lieffland, Smolenscien, Severien und Czcherniechovien, [et]c [...]" (transl. We, Frederick Augustus by the grace of God, King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Russia, Prussia, Mazovia, Samogitia, Kiev, Volhynia, Podolia, Podlasie, Inflants, Smolensk [...] and Chernivshchyna").

General condition of the document: good. Traces of folding. Several traces of a small cut on the left margin of the document. Beautifully preserved electoral seal of August II Sas.
