Lot description Show orginal version
Grade: XF+
Reference: Miłczak A1 e)

One of the typologically rarest varieties of 5zł 1794. Known only from one series - N.D.2. - characterized by an error in the text of the resolution, in the last line, in the word Narodawey, where correctly it should be Narodowey.

A banknote of exceptional beauty, with only two very slight horizontal deflections, a broken lower left corner and dry traces of two old under-stickers in the upper margin, on the reverse side.

Paper stiff and with preserved natural texture. Both exquisitely preserved and with intense pink-lilac coloring, natural for this denomination, which is rare for a second issue. Here, when we come across pieces in reasonably good condition, the coloring is usually already heavily lost, often even to cream color.

A perfectly legible and preserved dry seal, with a break characteristic of this denomination, as well as with a feature pertaining only to the second issue - the letter D in the upper part of the dry seal, which is not so often encountered (more on dry seals from the Insurrection on PortalNumizmatyczny.pl)

Magnificent handwritten signatures of two commissioners, Maciej Skalawski and Tomasz Zarski. It is worth noting that both signatures were made with two types of ink, and we can see such a feature in full glory only on pieces excellent in terms of banknote condition.

In addition, the banknote has a fragment of the watermark of one of the companies producing the paper on which the tickets of the Kosciuszko Insurrection were printed. A Dutch company owned by Jan Honig, marking its product with the filigree J HONIG & ZOONEN. This additional feature, along with those mentioned earlier, makes this a unique piece.
