From 1972 to 1978 he studied painting at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts under professors: L. Maciąg, J. Siennicki, M. Bylina. He received his diploma with honors in 1978. He is a professor at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Baj's main interests are easel painting and drawing, his graphics are rare. He is the creator of more than a hundred solo exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He has also participated in more than a hundred group exhibitions. His works can be found in the collections of Polish museum institutions Polish private collections at home and abroad. At the beginning of his creative activities Baj created genre scenes inspired by nature and village life. Since the 1980s, he has been primarily preoccupied with the Bug River landscape and portrait painting. His works have universal yet symbolic qualities, especially his many portraits of his mother and the bends of the wild Bug River.
