De Chirico developed his style and decided on subject matter influenced by his travels and European cities. He served with his brother in the Italian army during World War I and continued painting during his service. The year 1919 marked the beginning of the next stage of the artist's seventy-year career, in
which he experimented with several media.
Giorgio De Chirico died on November 20, 1978 in Rome, Italy.

Giorgio De Chirico was known for painting motifs of European cities inspired by the classics. Giorgio was passionate about the classics, which he incorporated into his works. He was also famous for addressing emotional states such as nostalgia, sadness and pain in his paintings. Some of his works were also characterized by accurate details and rich colors.

Greek mythology and classical art first influenced De Chirico's artistic development. Later, at the Academy, De Chirico studied the works of Max Klinger and Arnold Bocklin. Philosophers such as Nietzsche and Schopenhauer influenced the philosophical themes in Giorgio's paintings throughout his career.

Giorgio De Chirico was associated with the Surrealist art movement. De Chirico founded the metaphysical painting movement with Carlo Carra, but it only lasted for a short time. Soon after, in Paris, he became associated with the Surrealists.
