Biography
Studied at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts. He was associated with the Cracow Group. He made his debut in 1948 at the First Exhibition of Modern Art in Cracow. He also exhibited together with the international group Phases. He took part in the exhibition at the Warsaw Arsenal "Against War, Against Fascism" in 1955, where he won an award. He worked as a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts until his retirement in 1998. In 1986 he received the independent Jan Cybis Award. The artist's paintings close to surrealism from his early youth - fantastic creatures and figures in imaginary landscapes - evolved towards abstraction. Since the 1970s, he has taken up religious themes. In addition to the visual arts, Tchórzewski was involved in poetry. A collection of poems from 1988-96, titled. "Eternal Beginning of a Violent Moment" was published posthumously in 2003.
