This producer is making a huge career in the last 2 decades. According to the classic XIXth century classification, it belongs to the 5th Grand Cru, nonetheless nowadays these wine are highly regarded as both the prices as well as the reviews are equal as those of the best 2nd Grand Cru producers.
Muscular structure, atramentous in colour with great fruit concentration: chokeberry, blackberry, blackcurrant and also quite a lot of graphite. Tannins are still quite oaky as this wine still need few years to fully develop. Nonetheless, first signs of development can be noticed in the bouquet : dried berries, autumn underbrush, wet tobacco. Chateau Pontet-Canet is on of jus a few properties in Bordeaux, which switched to a fully biodynamic production, where in the fields horses are used instead of tractors. Regardless of the aristocratic connotations associated with Bordeaux, Ponte-Canet has taken the effort to revive the most traditional methods of viniculture used centuries ago.
