Biography
Ambroziak's works are influenced by New Expressionism, as well as folk and prehistoric art. Ambroziak works in sculpture and drawing, as well as installation and experimental animated film. The artist's work, recognized and appreciated early on, has been repeatedly shown in exhibitions, notable among which are joint presentations with Expressionist painter Eugeniusz Markowski. Sylwester Ambroziak graduated in 1989 from the Faculty of Sculpture at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the studio of Professor Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz. He also studied with Stanisław Kulon and Grzegorz Kowalski. In 1997 he received an honorable mention for his sculpture "Cain and Abel" at the "Sacrum" exhibition in Czestochowa. He is primarily known for his large-format sculptures made in wood. His works are characterized by a summary elaboration of the form and a grotesque way of presenting figures with distorted proportions and characteristic facial features, reminiscent of African masks.
