In 1954, he graduated from the State School of Fine Arts in Lodz (now the Wladyslaw Strzeminski Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz) and took an assistant's job there. The following year, he made his debut as a painter and graphic artist at the 10th Lodz District Exhibition of the Association of Polish Artists. From 1981 to 1987, he served as rector at his alma mater, and in 1990 he was awarded the title of full professor. His work was part of the conceptual and constructivist art trend. He was involved in painting, drawing, as well as installations using sound structures. In the initial period of his work, he belonged to the art group "Piąte Koło", later he joined the "New Line" Group, which was active at the Polish Writers' Association in Lodz. The artist has been repeatedly awarded and honored in art competitions and exhibitions, and has received many decorations and state awards
