Stanislaw Hosius was royal secretary to Sigismund I the Old, great secretary to the crown, bishop of Chelm and Warmia, and cardinal. He composed the Confessio fidei catholicae Christiana (Confessionof Catholic Faith) and persuaded the Polish bishops to swear it in during the Piotrków synod in 1551. A well-known opponent of the Reformation. He opposed the translation of the Bible into Polish and the idea of introducing liturgy in the national language.
