W. Mickiewicz (1838-1926) - activist of the Polish cause in exile, translator, eldest son of Adam Mickiewicz and Celina née Szymanowska. "He controlled the scope of information about his father and family, selecting, censoring and destroying testimonies that were inconvenient, deviating from the hagiographic model of the great father he tried to popularize [...]. He seems to have destroyed or fabricated much, but he also saved a great deal, sparing no effort or resources" (Enc. Mick. 312).
