In the background to the right of the landscape is a martyr's scaffold with a ladder. To the left are several mourners, including a gesticulating woman in a long pale blue dress and bright red cloak, and an elegant man in a dark blue cloak and turban. The other three characters are in the background. The painting is done in mostly beige-brown colors. The light from the left falls on the martyr and the right side of the woman.
