Jan Limont was active from the 1930s through the late 1970s. In his work, he drew on the pottery traditions of Vilnius. His vases and bowls are characterized by distinctive painted decoration. The surface of this particular vessel is entirely covered with ornamental patterns. Jan Limont used the combing technique for the decoration. On the freshly made vessel, he painted several bands encircling it, then ran a special comb made of a strip of hard rubber over them. This process caused the pigments of the individual colored bands to blend together.
