Coated bronze. 26 x 14 x 12 cm
Maria de' Medici was the queen of France and Henry IV's wife. Barthelemy Prieur, the court's artist, produced the bronze busts depicting the king and his spouse, today preserved at the Louvre.
Two versions of this royal portrait exist: the first depicts Maria de' Medici wearing a vintage tunic and an extraordinary hairdo set with jewels, the second shows the king wearing the court's garment, complete with jewels and a gorget.
Our bust is inspired by this second version, with some modifications regarding the jewels and the gorget. The benchmark is still the same, nowithstanding.
This fine piece from the 1800s distinguishes itself for the quality of the handiwork and the richness of detail.
