Small Louis XVI side table

Stamped by Jean Baptiste Vasson (1739-1807) on the reverse.

The body standing on square conical legs with gilt bronze sabots, with three narrow drawers and an intermediate shelf between the legs in the lower section. All sides, the drawers and the clipboard are decorated with fine marquetry. The marble top is fitted with a narrow, wooden gallery to prevent small objects from falling.

Annotation:
Vassou (cabinetmaker and cabinetmaker, Paris, master on January 28, 1767) made a name for himself with a fairly extensive production of handsome furniture, almost all of which dates from the transitional period or the time of Louis XVI. His furniture in the transitional style is made of mahogany and is often very tall in relation to its width.
He used only fine veneer woods and his inlays are bright and decorated with large floral motifs. In 1799, Jean-Baptiste Vassou moved his workshop to the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, where he was succeeded by his youngest son Jean-Louis. (1420771) (19))
