Miloslava Vrbová . A Forest Interior

Oil on Plywood

This striking oil painting by Miloslava Vrbová is a masterfully executed study of a forest interior. The artist employs a bold, expressionistic style with loose, dynamic brushwork to capture the light and atmosphere within the dense woodland. The composition is dominated by a stand of towering trees, whose trunks are rendered with a powerful sense of form and texture. The dark, rich tones of the forest floor and shadows are contrasted dramatically with vibrant, unexpected flashes of color—fiery reds, luminous greens, and brilliant yellows—that highlight the trees and suggest sunlight filtering through the canopy. Vrbová's focus on the interplay of light and shadow creates a moody and atmospheric scene, drawing the viewer into the depths of the woods. The work is a powerful example of 20th-century landscape painting, where the artist prioritizes emotional resonance and sensory experience over strict realism. Oil on board, 65 x 80 cm.
