Roman BRATKOWSKI
1869 Lviv - 1954 Wieliczka
Studied at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow under Feliks Szynalewski, Ignacy Jablonski and Wladyslaw Luszczkiewicz (in 1888-1890). He continued his painting studies in Vienna. In 1894-1896 he studied at Anton Aźbé's private painting school in Munich, where he returned many times. Starting in 1891, the artist regularly participated in exhibitions at the TZSP in Warsaw and at the TPSP in Krakow and Lviv. Beginning in 1903, he collaborated with Stanisław Batowski at the painting school he ran in Lviv. Bratkowski painted primarily landscapes, among which sea views and nocturnes predominate. The artist's paintings are in the collections of museums in Krakow, Warsaw and Tarnow, as well as in private collections. They were perfectly composed and finished, imbued with a mood of subtle melancholy. They were distinguished by his skill in observing and synthesizing the phenomena of nature, especially accentuating the contrast of movement and stillness in the landscape.
