Bogumiła MALEC (1913-1987)
Bogumiła Zbirożanka Malec b. 28 V 1913 Czestochowa, d. 24 I 1987 Czestochowa Polish avant-garde painter also practiced film prints, artistic textiles, poetic works. Studied in 1934-1937 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in the atelier of Professor Władysław Jarocki at the Department of Painting and Sculpture; met, among others, Tadeusz Kantow and Erna Rosenstein, Henryk Wicinski, Sasha Blonder, Leopold Lewicki, Jonasz Stern Józef Jarema and Maria Jaremianka. His studies in painting were deepened at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the Department of Decorative Painting under Prof. Leonard Pękalski and Prof. Mieczyslaw Kotarbinski. In addition to her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, completed in May 1939, she undertook studies at the State Institute of Theater Art (1938-1939) in the class of Leon Schiller, Władysław Daszewski, among others. In the 1930s she was affiliated with the KPP movement, later in the PZPR, from which she later withdrew. After World War II, she actively participated in the life of the local artistic community, among others by co-founding the Trade Union of Polish Artists and the School of Fine Arts in Częstochowa (now the Jacek Malczewski School of Fine Arts Complex). The artistic work of Bogumiła Zbirożanka Malec, according to Mieczysław Porębski, should be counted among the broad current of Polish "modernity" independent of the influence of commercialism, stiffness, with great activity in the years of post-war modernism, described as "objectless" in favor of abstraction and surrealism with a negation of realism. In the 1950s, she organized "cinema-forms" - shows combined with her own poetry read during the show. She actively participated in city and regional exhibitions of the ZPAP; in the local environment she was one of the few to represent the abstract and metaphorical painting trend.
