Painter of the Tatra Mountains. He returned to Poland with his father from emigration in 1871, and they settled in Krakow. There he studied painting and sculpture with, among others, Władysław Łuszczkiewicz at the School of Fine Arts starting in 1884. In 1888 he received a silver medal for his achievements at school and a second prize at the Society of Friends of Fine Arts for his sculpture. In 1890, he continued his studies at the Munich academy under Otto Seitz. Upon his return, he studied at the Department of Composition under Jan Matejko. He completed his studies with a gold medal for his painting "Country Carders." After his initial successes during his studies, he continued to be in high demand painting genre scenes from Podhale, Tatra landscapes, portraits of highlanders in colorful costumes and traditionally decorated homes, and religious scenes. He lived in Cracow and Zakopane in his villa in Toporowa Cyrhla. He exhibited extensively, at the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1890-1908, here a group exhibition of his works was organized in 1929; at the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1895-98 and later in 1923-1930. At the same time he continued to exhibit at the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Cracow (1922-1935). During World War II he took up permanent residence in Cyrhla. Today, his works are in the collections of the National Museums of Cracow and Warsaw, the Historical Museum of the City of Cracow and the Tatra Museum, among others.
