Denomination introduced by the reform of January 11, 1924. The coin was minted pursuant to the regulation of the Minister of Finance dated December 10, 1936. Pursuant to the regulation of the President of the Republic of Poland dated August 27, 1932, these coins could be used to pay obligations up to a maximum of 100 zlotych. The coin remained in circulation until November 1939.
The coin was minted in Warsaw in 1936 in a mintage of 1,000,000 pieces to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the construction of the port in Gdynia.
Obverse: a crowned eagle; the legend around the edge reads: RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA 1936
Reverse: a view of a ship at sea; below, the inscription “5 zlotych 5”; the designer’s initials, J-A. Above the waves, on the right, the Kościesz coat of arms—the mark of the State Mint in Warsaw.
