Alina Slesinska (1922 Poznań - 1994 Warsaw), Character, 1982

Biography
She studied in Cracow with Xawery Dunikowski and in Warsaw, in the studio of Marian Wnuk. The second half of the 1950s and the first half of the 1960s marked the period of her greatest artistic career and national and world fame. Contributing factors included her spectacular success at the "Architecture of Sculpture, Sculpture of Architecture" exhibition at the Third Bienalle in Paris in 1963 and her participation in art projects; at the construction of the city of Brasilia in Latin America, at the invitation of Oscar Niemeyer, and in Ghana, at the invitation of the President. Her interests, like those of Alina Szapocznikow, with whom she competed, oscillated around biomorphic sculpture, especially by Henry Moor, and projects combining the achievements of architecture and sculpture. In parallel with painting, sculpture and architecture, she created tapestries and prints. She also created works on paper, including the "Projects for Architecture" series from the early 1970s, where she combined sculptural forms with architecture, presenting futuristic concepts inspired by the avant-garde and science fiction films. Forgotten later in life, she died in 1994 in Warsaw.

However, after her death, Alina Slesinskaya's work was widely represented. Several significant exhibitions were organized, including the solo exhibition "Alina Slesinskaya" at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw (08.12.2007-24.02.2008) and "Sketches of Space" at the Xawery Dunikowski Museum in Królikarnia, a branch of the National Museum in Warsaw (27.06.2024-13.10.2024).

Alina Slesinskaya's works can be found in well-known collections of such institutions as the Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller in Otterlo (Netherlands); Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris; National Museum in Warsaw; FRAC Centre in Orleans, National Museum in Cracow and others.
