Chateau Grillet, Rhone Valley
Comments
Chateau Grillet is an unusual appellation in the wine world. It is not only exceptionally valued for the quality of the wines coming from here, but mainly due to the fact that within its borders there is only one producer and only one grape is grown. Similar exceptions of this class can be counted on the fingers of one hand.
The Chateau with the same name as the appellation is now part of the famous Artemis group and has just over 3 hectares under cultivation. Granite-clay soils, steep, river-facing slopes and old vines of the viognier variety make it possible to create concentrated and aromatic wines. Chateau Grillet wines are not as intense as viognier can be. They retain more reserve and grace, without losing any of the richness that characterizes them. The 2019 vintage still has a few years of development ahead of it, but it will already please lovers of more than just the variety.
