In a wooded landscape, against a blue sky with white streaks of clouds, a young man in a reddish shirt with open sleeves sleeps, his head resting on his clasped hands. Behind him to the left, on a thick tree trunk, is the rifle with which he shot the five birds lying in a semicircle in front of him. A small brown catch bag serves as a gunpowder container. To the right, under another tree trunk, rests a large, slightly curled dog with shiny white fur, a red muzzle, and reddish-brown eyes. In particular, the use of light, the contrast between the dark shadows and the light falling on the hunter's face and clothing, as well as the attention to detail of the birds and the dog's hair, are reminiscent of Roman Caravaggism. Partial frame damage. Note:
The artist trained in the workshop of Francesco Morelli and soon specialized in still lifes and flower paintings. Salini was never a pupil of Caravaggio, but was influenced by his work.
