Kuncewiczówka, the home of the famous writer Maria Kuncewiczowa, is located on a picturesque Kazimierski hill near the Malachowski Gorge. The stately villa, designed by prominent architect Karol Siciński, was built in 1936. The wooden highland-style building, surrounded by a beautiful garden, was initially the summer residence of the writer and her husband Jerzy, a writer and lawyer. Later the couple, enchanted by this unusual place, came here more and more often until they finally settled in permanently. The Kuncewicz house, also known as Willa pod Wiewiórką, served a glorious role as the cultural center of the town. Among those who stayed here were Julian Tuwim, Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz, Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, Konstanty Ildefons Galczynski and Antoni Slonimski.
In September 1939, the hosts and a group of friends left the country. During the war, the writers' house was occupied by the Germans and later by the Soviets.
In 1962 Maria and Jerzy returned to Kazimierz. After some time, they rebuilt their beloved villa, which again became a hospitable asylum for people of culture and art.
Today, a literary museum collecting valuable mementos of the owners operates in Kuncewiczowka.
