An exquisite Rococo clock with a mechanism made in the workshop of one of the representatives of the French watchmaking dynasty - the Le Roy family, probably Pierre, son of Julien, clockmaker to King Louis XVI. It belongs to the variety known in France as cartel sur console murale, made after the middle of the 17th century, the form of which was widespread in the Rococo developed during the Regency period. The offered clock is distinguished by its professionally modeled, chiseled and amalgam-gilded bronzes with a dynamic, asymmetrical composition and horn cladding. This type of finish on large surfaces of the furniture case was very rarely used outside France. The distinctive and not naturally occurring color was obtained by underpainting the inside of the horned sheets. Pink-colored casings are among the rarer ones.
Typically French features include the solution of the dial - round, cast bronze, with enameled cartouches with hour and minute markings, arranged in appropriately shaped sockets.
The preserved original console, hung on the wall and supporting the case, increases the antique value of this timepiece. Pieces composed of a cabinet and console are among the far rarer pieces than pieces without a console.
