Tadeusz Cieślewski (Warsaw 1870–1956)—Polish painter. Father of graphic artist Tadeusz Cieślewski. He studied painting at the Warsaw School of Drawing under Wojciech Gerson and Jan Kauzik. In 1895–96, he studied in Paris at the Académie Vitti and under Edmond Aman-Jean and Robert Collin. In 1898, he received a silver medal for a series of postcards depicting Warsaw. In 1900, he traveled to Italy and studied at the Roman Academy. From 1906, he was a member of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts, as well as a member and president of the Pro Arte artistic and painting society. He also served as president of the Association of Polish Visual Artists. He participated in exhibitions of Polish art in 1924 in Moscow, in 1936 at the 20th Venice Biennale, and in 1939 in New York. In 1928 and 1951, he received the City of Warsaw Award. He painted urban landscapes of Warsaw, and less frequently, natural landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. He painted mostly in watercolor, and occasionally in pastels and oils. His works can be viewed, among other places, at the National Museums in Warsaw and Poznań.
