S. MARTY WATCH COMPANY, Mantel clock with figure of Lycurgus

Black and green marble, marblite, patinated bronze; brass, glass, enamel; height 55.5 cm; width 51 cm; depth 25 cm.
France, Paris, 4th quarter of 19th century.
Base elongated arched, with risalite and profiled cornice. Body decorated on sides with canels; in the center, clock face with thick beveled glass door; white enamel; wide ring with Roman hour division; at the bottom, inscription: "B. GLESENT / VERVIERS"; center recessed, with two holes for key tension visible - - visible at the top of the outrigger working mechanism. The clock crowned with the figure of a seated, bearded man in antique robes, supported on a semi-column, in his hands holding a plaque with the inscription: "LOIS / DE / SPARTE" (this is an image of the mythical Spartan legislator Lycurgus.
On the mechanism plate the inscriptions: "F-que HORLOGERIE - PARIS", in a circle: "S. Marty / MEDAILLE DE BRONZE"; beaten number "217".
