ZEGADŁOWICZ Emil - MOTORS.
A novel. Vol. 1-2 (in 2 vols.). Kraków-Warszawa-Lwow 1938. published by "Sirinks", pp. 359, tabl. illustr. 19; 413, tabl. illustr. 18, 20 cm, contemporary-semi leather binding, stained upper page edges. The 1st edition was confi rmed by a ruling of the District Court in Cracow in 1937. About 200 pieces survived, hidden by the author in Gorzeń Górny and distributed to friends. The book, considered the most scandalizing work of the time and rejected by several publishing houses (including J. Przeworski and F. Hoesick), was published only thanks to the financial support of the painter Marian Ruzamski (1889-1945), in the ephemeral publishing house "Sirinks" founded by him (after "Motors" two more works were published in the publishing house, including one confi rmed). Contents, 558 E. Zegadłowicz. Motors. 1938. edition 1. 560. S. Żeromski. Intermorality. 1924. 1st ed. Braided from autobiographical threads and references to real events, it is a unique literary projection of the sexual obsessions of the writer, who "at the age of only forty-something, used the most sophisticated means of sexual excitement, and in this lies the inexhaustible source of these erotic drives" (E. Kozikowski). The book is decorated with sensual drawings by Stefan Zechowski (an artist from the "Szukalszczyk" circle), which contribute to the atmosphere of the novel. "Motory" remains one of the most daring and avant-garde creative experiments in Polish literature of the interwar period.Undated ownership signatures. Some pages glued and reinforced, without damage to the text; a few dampstains. Good condition. RARE.
